A brief mid-day break

Whodda' thunk we'd be chillin' with Topher in the duplex at 4:00 on the 3rd? But here we are, indeed. It was my turn to take the "early" shift this morning while Josh took Topher on a 1 hour+ hike in Horse Gulch (this dog - such a charmed life he leads, eh?). Things in the office were calm as all the volunteers are now working out of staging locations... but there was just enough phone calls, emails, and packets to put together to keep me at a constant busy until Josh arrived around noon. By 2:00 we had eaten lunch (at, where else, but Carver's - easily our 12th meal there) and completed all our tasks for the time being; meanwhile, we had to vacate one of our staging locations from 2-6 and move all the action back to HQ; dozens of volunteers descended all at once, getting ready for the 3:30 shift change. So we took advantage of this deluge to spend some time away; we are heading back around 6pm for a massive voter list print and manila envelope stuff.

Our day begins at 6am tomorrow, when we'll arrive at the Durango Arts Center staging location to help give our poll workers their packets and send them out to their assigned precincts. The next wave of volunteers doesn't arrive until 9:30, but the day ends only when the last voter has voted, so it could be a long one.

Energy is high, people are excited, folks are wondering where the poll watching parties will be tomorrow... we're still working hard and not paying attention to any polls. As Senator Obama says, "the only poll that matters is the one on November 4."
