Well, after four days of travel in the van towing the "bean" Airstream trailer, we've arrived in Durango: Ground Zero for our volunteering adventure for the Obama/Biden campaign.
Our trip to date:
Day 1: San Francisco to Milpitas (Airstream storage) to Bakersfield, CA. Drive time: approximately 5 hours. Bakersfield RV Resort was our oasis.
Day 2: Bakersfield, CA to Needles, CA. Drive time: approximately 5.5 hours. Desert View RV Park was our respite.
Day 3: Needles CA to Gallup, NM. Drive time: approximately 7 hours. USA RV Park was our all-American accommodations. Side Note: Maida and I experienced quite possibly the busiest, most crowded Wal-Mart we have ever seen. Needing a few essentials, we thought, "who shops at Wal-Mart on a Saurday evening at 8pm. Answer: Every single human being in a 50-mile radius of Gallup, NM. Unbelieveable. No evidence of a downturn in the economy (or, conversely, incredible evidence of such a turn).
Day 4: Gallup, NM to Durango, CO. Drive time: approximately 4 hours. Great, beautiful drive north through Shiprock, Farmington, and then onward to the Colorado border. Nightly stay: Alpen Rose RV Park, just north of Durango on 550.
